So I wake up today, head splitting from a headache (secretly I think it is a slight hangover.) I believe that the red wine in the beef pie, the red wine in the Sangria, the white wine in the chicken pie and lastly whatever damn alcohol the Tiramisu had in it (friends brought over dessert.) So technically I think I am dead if that is the case this blog is being brought to you by a zombie. One that is also listening to ‘The Armchair Expert’ podcast. My phone started buzzing when I turned the wi-fi on, like usual games miss you, someone’s birthday gets plastered over your home screen through Facebook notifications and you get made to feel like shit if you don’t want to say happy birthday to them!! Plus you have to remember if they did so for your own!!! It is a vicious world out there.
Amongst the notifications I saw the lovely WordPress symbol, it is a sign that I am loved while I was offline. Rory felt the need to make up for the fact that he didn’t miss me during my time off so he nominated me for a Blogger’s Recognition Award (Does this mean I am now recognised as a blogger and not just a screen? I also want to note that I am staring at the bottle of Gentleman’s Collection Cab Sav hoping for a drop or two remaining it is 9:54am that is a good drinking time.) Now where was I? Yes, I was nominated so here are,
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
2. Write a post to show your award.
3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
5. Select 15 other bloggers for this award. (Are you serious no one got time for that)
6. Comment on each blog to let them know you’ve nominated them and a link to the post you created. (if you read my post you should already know, right? )
Cheers Doodlepip for the nomination, I am sure it was you who did this and not the human!!
Is it just me or do these questions just seem silly? Of course, I am going to post about having a second award I am a blogger and I am VAIN!!! I like being awarded fake stickers for whatever reason I got nominated!!! Does it come with a Big Mac? I am hungry.
First two questions down!! Now for the third.
How did I start this blog, wow very technical? I opened the laptop went on to WordPress and signed up and wrote something and pressed publish without tags (Idiot – I think I corrected it later on but to no big success) and thought people would follow me by the millions. They haven’t if you are wondering.
If the question was more, why did you start blogging or what drove you to want to write to the world? Then I would be more inclined to say……..
There are a few reasons for myself starting this blog, I was lonely (still am) I have some friends in RL but not those that I see on a regular basis. I was in a deep depressive slump and felt I needed to talk to someone (besides the wife) I figured if I could make a few friends on WordPress, that I wouldn’t be so inclined to lose myself too far. Facebook, as I have posted about before, is so degrading, people post pictures of themselves or their lives and it starts off an untrue story of someone having a better life than another (I don’t think they mean it like that but that is how it comes across.) So I came here, to tell my story, I had thought if I had enough people I could write a few fictional stories here to see what the general consensus was, even though the thought of being laughed at had held me back a little.
So yeah I started here to make friends (it isn’t impossible to find out my name if you looked for it but yeah I try to remain a little anonymous), write and explore how others are really doing in this lonely life.
Two pieces of advice for newcomers? Considering I have been here since January I can still plead newby right? The best thing I can tell you is that no matter what happen’s keep writing!! Nobody becomes an instant hit, I was eager to get heaps of people and I have seen others that have skyrocketed with followers, maybe it is because of the niche they are in or because people love following good looking people. So take your time, build yourself up and be true to who you are!!
The other piece of advice would be, don’t follow for follow!!! there is nothing worse than having a person start following you then delete you straight after you follow them, I have had a few and I remember who they are. The others are the type that will follow and if they don’t receive a follow they unfollow you for a time and then start again. For me, if you wish to follow someone make sure they produce the content that you like, before following. I would rather have 160 followers that enjoy what I write than have them follow and not like a single post. This also the reason that I have so many to look at, I feel it is better to treat the person writing exactly for who they are a person who needs to be heard, not a number generator.
So be true to yourself, and only follow who you like and feel you can have a relationship with after all that is what this is a relationship between the writers and the readers. Otherwise, what is the point of these damn questionnaires.
For the nominations, I will choose a couple because I can 😛
Jena – Please check her out, she is a genuine woman who also loves antiques!!
Angela – If you don’t know her blog by now you should be ashamed, for me,(she may disagree) we have this kind of relationship as if she is like a sister or friend that you really need to poke all the time, why? Cause I can? Plus she is such a great person when she isn’t stealing books that I am reading or buying out of my mind!!!
Robbie – If I had a twin I think it would be Robbie!! Except he is the smart one and I have all the looks. Robbie is a children’s writer and poet, his poems not only help brighten a day but they have the ability to make you pee in your pants, I just go around telling people that since having children I have bladder issues but that story is for another time.
K.M. Allan – Firstly I am jealous, what a name!! It isn’t easy to forget and seems to just slide right of the tongue, so I am jealous. If you are looking for writing advice definitely check her out!! She is a Young Adult writer and loves chocolate and green tea, I am not sure if she has had a chocolate infused green tea before, but I have 😉
and last but not least is
Bryan Fagan – What can I say, Bryan is genuine, his blog shows that. He likes to post his spontaneous Fridays and gives a life lesson from his own personal stories, which is awesome!! If anyone is worthy of this award it would be him!! Check him out (not in that way you dirty minded people.)
Well, that is it for me I have to get back to my writing, enjoy the rest of the day. I need a coffee with possibly some whiskey!!
Till next time, Keep smiling
